Across Time, Beauty Evolves—
Bestowing A Quiet Pride Upon Life.

TRAD is a brand that bridges the spirit and aesthetic sensibility of Japanese living with the intellect and refinement of the global stage.

The origins of TRAD trace back to 1870, a time when Japan stood at the threshold of modernity. It began with the founding of Honjo corporation as a merchant of fertilizers and oils. From there, its business extended into vital infrastructure resources such as coal, cement, and petroleum.

With the advent of widespread automobile use, Honjo corporation embraced the era of motorization, evolving into fields including fuel, automotive components, and accessories—culminating in its expansion into transportation, logistics, and maritime enterprises.

Since our founding, we have placed the highest value on the enrichment of material goods—those tangible elements that support everyday life. Yet as the era matured, the essence of prosperity gradually shifted from the material to the spiritual. Today, our gaze is fixed upon the fulfillment of the heart—on the experiential value of beauty and culture.

Moments that nourish the spirit.
Time spent savoring beauty.
The quiet wonder of encountering tradition.
These are experiences that linger, etched deeply into one’s life.

Throughout our history, successive generations of our leaders have devoted themselves not only to business, but also to the preservation and transmission of Japan’s spiritual culture—through practices such as the tea ceremony and Noh theatre. In the postwar era, these cultural pursuits served as pillars of inner strength, enabling Japan to reengage with the world on a renewed foundation.

In this light, today we do not merely seek to preserve tradition. Our ambition is to reimagine it as “beauty alive in the present.” By weaving classical techniques and materials together with contemporary sensibilities, we present an evolved vision of beauty—not nostalgic, but forward-looking.
